When the load needs more planning
For palletised goods, heavier freight, full loads, part loads and repeat transport. The correct body, loading method and receiving appointment matter as much as the journey between postcodes.

- Confirm forklift, dock, tail lift or other handling at both ends.
- Include site slots, access limits and any delivery sequence.
A part load can suit a flexible schedule. A dedicated vehicle or full-load arrangement may be more appropriate when timing, segregation or handling requirements demand it.

The smallest suitable vehicle is often the sensible starting point. It still needs enough usable space, payload and handling capacity, with safe access at collection and delivery.

Measure the goods as they travel
Include packaging, the pallet and any overhang in the length, width and height. Give the total freight weight and the weight of each item. Gross vehicle weight, such as 7.5t or 18t, is not the freight payload.
A load can fit inside the body but still fail to pass through the door, exceed the equipment rating or leave insufficient room to secure it. A photograph helps with awkward shapes, but it does not replace measurements.
A pallet count is only a starting point
A standard UK pallet is 1,200 × 1,000 mm; a Euro pallet is 1,200 × 800 mm. The loaded footprint may be larger. Confirm the actual dimensions, whether goods can be stacked, and any orientation restrictions.
Usable pallet positions depend on body dimensions, overhang, weight distribution, restraint space and delivery order. Refrigeration, cranes and mounted equipment can alter useful payload and loading arrangements.
How will it come off the vehicle?
Forklift or loading dock
Confirm that equipment and an authorised operator will be available at the booked time. Side loading may need a curtainsider or flatbed. A dock needs compatible vehicle height and a clear approach.
Tail lift and pallet truck
A tail lift lowers the load; a pallet truck moves it on a suitable surface. Check every weight on the platform, permitted handling method, footprint and load centre. Gravel, soft ground, steps and steep gradients need a different plan.
Crane, mounted forklift or a crew
A HIAB-type loader crane lifts; a MOFFETT-type truck-mounted forklift handles supported loads at ground level. Neither is interchangeable with two-person manual handling. Each needs its own access, capacity and operating-space assessment.

Island connections.
A Glasgow collection, an Inverness delivery and a Lerwick handover need different plans. We start with the exact addresses, goods-ready time and receiving window, then assess the complete movement.
Central Belt & city access
For Glasgow, Edinburgh, Paisley, Livingston, Falkirk, Stirling and the Lanarkshire towns, identify the goods entrance, bay booking and any height or street restrictions. Retail, office and industrial addresses can need very different unloading arrangements.
Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Dundee have city-centre Low Emission Zones. These are enforced through penalties for non-compliant, non-exempt vehicles, not a daily charge that can be paid to enter. Check the assigned vehicle and zone boundary through official Scottish LEZ guidance.
East coast, Fife & north-east industry
For Dundee, Perth, Fife, Aberdeen, Montrose, Peterhead and Fraserburgh, tell us the receiving company and exact industrial, depot or service-yard entrance. An urgent part and a regular pallet shipment may need different transport even when they share an address.
Declare the complete packaged size, weight and any unusual shape or handling. If a job involves a vessel, offshore supply chain or controlled industrial site, agree the land-based handover and any additional requirements. General transport coverage is not a promise of offshore or specialist handling approval.
Highlands, Moray & rural access
For Inverness, Elgin, Fort William, Oban and surrounding communities, include the final approach as well as the main road journey. Give gate widths, low branches, bridges, weight limits, gradients and turning space where relevant.
Vehicle positioning, longer road sections and the recipient’s hours all affect the schedule. Share a precise entrance location and photographs if the site is difficult to find or access. A suitable unloading surface and equipment are especially important where there is no conventional loading bay.
Orkney, Shetland & the Western Isles
For Kirkwall, Lerwick or Stornoway, the crossing and island delivery are part of the plan. Confirm the island address, freight-ready time, vehicle and load dimensions, receiving hours and whether a return movement is required.
Commercial-vehicle booking and check-in requirements differ from ordinary passenger travel. Use the current operator guidance for NorthLink commercial vehicles and CalMac vehicle dimensions and weight, as applicable. Sailing space and the onward receiving window must be confirmed before a delivery commitment is made.
Ports, airports & controlled handovers
For the Port of Aberdeen or Grangemouth, provide the exact terminal, agent, cargo reference, release status, slot and loading method. A port-area warehouse is not the same handover as a controlled berth or container terminal.
For Edinburgh, Glasgow or Aberdeen Airport, identify the handling facility and receiving contact. Agree any driver, airside, customs or specialist equipment requirements separately. Tell us which reference actually releases the goods and when the facility can receive or load the vehicle.
Borders, southbound work & crossings
Dumfries, Stranraer, Galashiels and Hawick work may be local, part of a long mainland journey or connected to a ferry. Supply the final destination and deadline, not just the Scottish collection point.
For England, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland or Europe, allow for road travel, applicable driver limits, check-in and any goods documentation. A collection estimate is not an island or international arrival promise. We assess the agreed route rather than applying one fixed daily mileage to every job.

Regular haulage & retail distribution
For repeat factory collections, store replenishment and depot-to-depot deliveries, share the frequency, weekly volumes, stop sequence and receiving windows. Planning the whole route can be more useful than treating every delivery as an isolated urgent job.

Warehousing & consolidation

Scotland transport coverage does not mean that every listed town has a Synergix depot or storage facility.
Two-person delivery
For goods needing an agreed crew, explain item weights, the route from vehicle to delivery point, stairs, lifts and the final placement required. Photographs and access measurements help us assess the job.
Two-person delivery does not automatically include unpacking, assembly, installation or removal of packaging. Set out the required tasks so they can be agreed.
Temperature control & event refrigeration
Refrigerated transport needs the goods, required temperature range, collection condition, journey and handover arrangements specified. Confirm any monitoring or documentation requirements when enquiring.
Event refrigeration is a separate requirement for refrigeration at the venue. Share the event dates, access, positioning, power arrangements and collection time. A refrigerated delivery is not automatically an event-hire booking.

What affects the collection and deadline?
Start with when the goods will actually be packed, released and ready to load. The collection estimate depends on a suitable available vehicle, its position, access and any equipment needed.
Onward timing includes the journey, loading and unloading, traffic, receiving slots and applicable driving and working-time limits. There is no reliable universal miles-per-day promise for every vehicle or job.
We assess same-day, overnight, weekend and out-of-hours requirements against those details. Tell us the real deadline, including any earlier goods-in closing time.
What affects the price?
The quote needs to account for vehicle positioning, the loaded journey, vehicle/body choice, relevant route charges and the time involved at both ends. Waiting, extra stops, additional labour, specialist equipment and a return or onward movement can change the cost.
For Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, islands or European movements, give the destination and deadline early. Ferry availability, check-in times, onward access and the goods documentation need to be assessed together. Agree who supplies any customs information and clearance services.
A clear load description and receiving plan reduce avoidable uncertainty. The price is not simply fuel cost multiplied by the distance between two postcodes.

Your location and the delivery plan
How quickly can you collect an urgent load in Scotland?
We confirm timing for the actual address, load and available vehicle. Around 45-minute courier collection may be possible in many mainland areas, but it is not a Scotland-wide guarantee. Remote Highland addresses, islands and specialist or HGV requirements need their own assessment. Tell us when the goods will be ready and the latest useful delivery time.
Does the Scotland directory include the Highlands and islands?
Yes. The 48 entries include Inverness, Fort William, Oban, Kirkwall, Lerwick and Stornoway as well as the main cities and towns. Send full addresses for surrounding communities. Island work is assessed around the appropriate crossing, freight acceptance, available space and final receiving arrangements.
Can we pay an extra charge to enter a Scottish Low Emission Zone?
Scotland’s LEZs are not a pay-to-enter daily charging scheme. A non-compliant vehicle without an applicable exemption can receive a penalty. Check the assigned vehicle and the relevant Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh or Glasgow boundary before planning the delivery. The street’s loading and access rules still apply separately.
Can you arrange a delivery to Orkney, Shetland or the Western Isles?
We can assess the complete movement, including the mainland leg, appropriate ferry, island road journey and receiving hours. Provide the packaged load details, readiness, exact island address and deadline. Availability and the full schedule must be agreed before booking; a mainland collection estimate cannot establish an island delivery time.
Why do you need the vehicle details before an island crossing is booked?
The ferry booking must match the actual vehicle and load. Overall dimensions, weight, equipment and commercial classification can affect acceptance and available space. A commercial van may need a different booking process from a household vehicle. We confirm the applicable operator requirements for the chosen route.
What happens if weather or a ferry change affects the delivery plan?
Tell us whether the receiver can accept another time and whether the goods have a critical use-by or operational deadline. We can assess the available alternative arrangements and confirm any effect on timing or cost. We cannot promise that another sailing, route or vehicle will always be available.
What should I send for a rural Highland collection?
Supply the full address, exact entrance, contact number, load dimensions and weight, ready time and receiving deadline. Include narrow approaches, bridges, gradients, turning space and the loading surface. Say what lifting equipment is available at both ends. Photos are useful where the access or load needs explanation.
Can you move released freight from a Scottish port or airport?
We can assess the agreed road handover once the terminal or handling agent, release reference, loading method and appointment are clear. Port and airport coverage does not automatically include airside access, customs clearance or special cargo handling. Confirm those requirements before a vehicle is allocated.
Can Scottish freight travel to Ireland or mainland Europe?
We can assess a suitable movement around the destination, goods and deadline. Specify Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland clearly, because route and documentation requirements can differ. Agree who supplies the goods information and any clearance services. Ferry timing, onward travel and applicable driver limits form part of the plan.
Choosing, booking and managing the vehicle
Will my dedicated courier delivery stay on the same vehicle?
A dedicated movement is normally collected and delivered on the same vehicle, travelling between the agreed points without a parcel-network sorting hub. Specify any extra stops, return collection or timed handover. If an unusual load or route needs a different arrangement, that should be discussed before booking. Shared or part-load haulage follows its agreed service plan.
Can you arrange evening, overnight or weekend transport?
Yes, we can discuss urgent and planned out-of-hours movements, and our phones are answered 24/7/365. Confirm that someone can release the goods and that the receiver will accept delivery at the proposed time. The suitable vehicle, equipment and driver schedule still need to be confirmed.
Do I need a courier van or a haulage vehicle?
Send the packaged length, width and height, item count, total weight and individual weights. A van may suit urgent parts or a compact load; multiple pallets, heavier freight or particular loading methods can need a rigid or articulated vehicle. We check the body, usable payload, door opening, loading equipment and access together. You do not need to choose the category before enquiring.
Can you deliver pallets without a forklift at the destination?
Possibly, using a suitable tail lift and pallet truck or another agreed handling arrangement. Give the loaded pallet footprint and weight, ground condition and distance to the handover point. Platform size, load centre and every weight carried on the lift must be checked. Gravel, soft ground, steps and steep gradients cannot be solved simply by requesting a tail lift.
When should I request an electric pump truck?
When pallet-truck handling is needed for an individual loaded pallet weighing 800 kg or more, request an electric pump truck. This is Synergix's booking requirement, not a universal legal threshold. Lighter pallets may also need powered handling. The pallet, equipment, lift platform, surface and operating space must still be suitable.
Can LoadCheck tell me which vehicle to book?
LoadCheck gives a first estimate using packaged dimensions, weights and quantities. It does not confirm the door opening, available payload, lifting equipment, site access or vehicle availability for a particular booking. Use the result with the load details when you ask our team to confirm the movement.
How is the transport price worked out?
The quote depends on the actual load, vehicle and equipment, positioning and loaded journey, timing, route charges and time at both sites. Extra stops, waiting, additional crew or specialist handling can alter it. Send both postcodes, dimensions, weights, readiness and deadline for a job-specific quote.
Will I receive tracking and proof of delivery?
Live tracking and electronic proof of delivery are available. Agree the contact, update method and any named recipient or delivery-reference requirement when booking. If the load, collection point or receiving slot changes, contact us promptly so suitability, timing and price can be reassessed.
