Your load.
The right vehicle.

Browse the van, rigid, articulated and specialist options, then open a vehicle guide for dimensions, body types and loading advice. You can ask for a particular vehicle or let us work from your load details.

Vehicle illustrations show example bodies. We confirm the actual vehicle, usable space, payload and equipment for your booking. Specialist configurations are subject to suitability and availability.

01 / Same-day & dedicated courier

Kirkwall courier.
A direct delivery.

For an urgent component, protected case, document or stock delivery, call with the actual ready time and receiving deadline. Local work and a journey involving a ferry need different timing assessments. We plan the agreed collection, crossing where required and final handover around the goods, suitable vehicle and availability.

Urgent business consignments

Documents, engineering parts, samples, tools, print, boxed stock and IT equipment can all need a dedicated courier. The smallest suitable vehicle depends on the packaged goods, not the label “parcel”. Send the quantity, dimensions and weights.

A server, delicate prototype or finished component needs packaging that protects it during loading and travel. Tell us if it must stay upright, cannot be stacked or needs a named recipient.

Pallets and bulky items

Courier work can include a suitable pallet or bulky consignment. We check the vehicle aperture, usable space, payload and unloading method. A pallet does not automatically fit a van just because it fits on the floor.

For heavier loads, several pallets or specialised unloading, see the haulage guidance. You can enquire without choosing the lorry first.

How quickly can we collect?

Kirkwall collection times are assessed for the actual address, load and available vehicle. A journey from or to the Scottish mainland also needs a suitable ferry booking, commercial check-in, crossing and onward road leg. Call with the ready time and deadline for an estimate. A rigid, artic, refrigerated body or specialist handling arrangement needs its own vehicle and route checks.

Collection speed is only part of the plan. Tell us when the goods will be released, how long loading will take and the receiver’s latest acceptance time. A town collection and an incoming ferry load have different steps. Confirm the actual release, terminal, commercial booking and check-in requirement, crossing, any transfer and receiver’s acceptance time. Weather, service changes and available deck space can affect an island journey; a quotation alone does not secure a sailing.

Kirkwall collections and onward UK delivery

For a Hatston unit, workshop, town business or named institutional receiver, give the actual entrance, department and receiving contact. A protected part, finished item or technical case needs its release reference and ready time as well as the latest acceptance time.

State whether the goods are already on Mainland Orkney or need a crossing from another island or the Scottish mainland. Confirm the chosen operator, terminal, booking and any transfer point. Declare batteries, cylinders, chemicals or other sensitive contents at quotation so road and ferry acceptance can be checked for the complete arrangement.

Updates, proof of delivery and repeat work

Our team remains your contact for the movement. Live tracking and electronic proof of delivery are available; agree any named-recipient, signature, photograph or reference requirements when booking.

We also assess scheduled supplier collections, branch transfers, multi-stop work and repeat courier routes. Phones are answered 24/7/365. The vehicle, crew and access at each end are confirmed for the booking.

02 / General & dedicated haulage

Kirkwall haulage.
Planned around the load.

For dedicated pallet transport, heavier engineering freight or a regular trailer movement, Synergix arranges the vehicle and driver around your load, handling and receiving requirements. Options include 7.5t, 18t and 26t rigids, full artics and suitable specialist configurations.

Dedicated pallet transport

Tell us the actual loaded footprint, height, weight and whether the freight can be stacked. A nominal pallet size does not include a crate, machine or packaging that projects beyond it.

We arrange a dedicated vehicle for your palletised goods, with collection, delivery and loading agreed for your job. Our team coordinates the movement and remains your point of contact. Tell us about fragile freight, specific handling or a timed delivery when booking.

Full loads, part loads and repeat work

A full vehicle can support larger consignments, stock transfers, production schedules and loads needing dedicated capacity. Agree the body, floor space, payload and loading order.

Part-load haulage can also be discussed where a suitable arrangement is available. Agree its collection window, delivery plan and handling before booking. For regular work, send your collection frequency, usual volumes, busy periods, site opening hours and return-load requirements.

Choose the body as well as the lorry size

Box and curtainsider

A box body uses its specified door opening and loading arrangement. A curtainsider can allow suitable forklift loading from the side. Check clear aperture, side access and restraint; curtains alone are not a universal load-securing system.

Flatbed, crane and mounted forklift

Long material, machinery or a delivery without a forklift may need a different body or handling method. A HIAB-type crane and MOFFETT-type forklift do different jobs. Supply load weights, lifting points or fork access, required reach and site photographs.

Temperature-controlled loads

Specify the product, required temperature, collection condition, packaging and monitoring or handover records. A refrigeration unit changes the vehicle specification; confirm its actual payload and space.

Articulated and specialist trailers

Curtainsider, box, refrigerated, flatbed and specialist trailer requirements are assessed individually. A long or heavy item needs its full dimensions, weight distribution and loading plan checked. The illustrated range does not establish suitability for every load.

Getting it off matters just as much

Confirm a forklift, loading dock, tail lift or other agreed equipment at both ends. For a tail-lift delivery, we need the individual item weight, footprint, all weight on the platform, permitted handling method, load centre and the surface beyond the lift.

When pallet-truck handling is needed for an individual loaded pallet weighing 800 kg or more, request an electric pump truck. This is Synergix's booking requirement. Lower weights can also need powered handling. A tail lift and pallet truck do not automatically solve gravel, slopes, steps or an unsuitable pallet.

Read our tail-lift and pallet-truck guidance.

Timed deliveries and urgent haulage

Palletised trade stock, packed workshop equipment and engineering assemblies need the full loaded footprint, height, total and individual weights. Explain protection, supports, orientation, stackability and loading at both ends. For a ferry journey, the complete vehicle and load need suitable deck-space, lashing and operator acceptance checked. Regular Kirkwall work can be planned around volumes, sailings, receiving slots, stop order and returns.

Urgent rigid or artic capacity can be assessed by our team. It does not carry the van collection estimate. Vehicle positioning, loading time, traffic, site appointments and applicable driver-hours limits determine the plan. UK, Ireland and European freight may also need ferry and goods-document arrangements.

Local work. Different requirements.

Transport shaped
by Kirkwall.

Kirkwall combines Hatston’s marine-energy and industrial surroundings, current civil aviation testing at the airport, local craft manufacturing, and town businesses supplied by road and sea. Connect the actual receiving point, protection and loading plan to the whole island journey.

Energy and technical equipment

Parts, protection and the actual site

Orkney’s official industry information identifies Hatston as a service base for marine renewables. SATE’s current primary information separately identifies civil low-carbon aviation testing at Kirkwall Airport. The airport, an industrial unit and a marine receiver are distinct handover points.

For a component, instrument or packed assembly, give protective packing, orientation, individual weights and any batteries or regulated contents. Confirm the department, project reference, actual goods entrance and receiving time. A local technical example does not establish airside access, a military programme or specialist permissions.

Craft and workshop manufacture

Protect finished goods and supplies

Ortak’s current primary workshop information identifies jewellery manufacturing in Kirkwall. Its Hatston workshop and town retail store are different receiving points. Finished goods, packaging materials and workshop supplies can need their protection, quantity and authorised receiver clearly agreed.

Describe the complete packaged dimensions, weights, value and handling requirements. Say if an item must remain upright, cannot be stacked or needs a named handover. The route, packing, acceptance and any particular evidence requirement are assessed for the job; a workshop example is not a claimed Synergix customer.

Trade and island replenishment

Receiving slots and regular loads

Hatston industrial and logistics addresses and Kirkwall’s town businesses can need parts, trade supplies or replenishment from another receiving point. A goods-in bay, warehouse yard and shop frontage may need different bodies, equipment and unloading paths.

Give item or pallet count, loaded dimensions, total and individual weights, stackability and loading equipment. For repeat work, add volumes, frequency, receiving slots, sailings and returns. Warehousing, cross-docking and retail distribution can be discussed with the actual location and full scope agreed.

Food, events and property work

Define temperature and final placement

For food stock, event equipment, tools or a property delivery, state the actual product, packing and receiving point. A proposed temperature-controlled load needs its required temperature, collection condition, monitoring and handover requirements declared with the complete road and ferry journey.

Two-person delivery and specialist handling can be assessed for the goods and site. Stationary event refrigeration is separate from refrigerated road transport. Confirm any venue, power, duration, surfaces, kerbs, steps or final-placement requirement, together with availability and the island route.

Local sector context: Hatston’s official industry context and SATE’s current civil aviation context and Ortak’s Kirkwall workshop information. Named organisations provide local context, not claims of Synergix customers.

The last mile matters

Routes, loading
& site access.

An island job needs its exact terminal, confirmed commercial booking, complete load and final goods entrance. Hatston ferry handovers, Kirkwall town streets and outer-island cargo links have different receiving and access arrangements.

Hatston and commercial ferry bookings

NorthLink’s Hatston terminal information identifies the ferry terminal outside Kirkwall, separate from the town pier. Its commercial-vehicle guidance requires business vans to be booked through the freight department. Identify the actual port, route and confirmed booking.

NorthLink’s commercial guidance gives HGV check-in cutoffs of 60 minutes before departure at Hatston, Stromness and Scrabster, and 90 minutes at Aberdeen and Lerwick. Reconfirm the current instructions for the chosen movement, including vehicle dimensions, load, lashing and declared contents. Passenger check-in guidance is not a universal freight deadline.

Other crossings and outer-island scope

A route through St Margaret’s Hope, Stromness or an outer island needs its own operator and terminal plan. Pentland Ferries’ guidance directs commercial vehicles and freight to its booking offices. Confirm the complete vehicle, load, booking and required arrival time for that operator.

Orkney Ferries’ cargo guidance identifies route-specific receiving windows, shipping notes, vehicle limits and lashing requirements. Kirkwall Pier cargo and NorthLink at Hatston are different handovers. An onward island movement or transfer must be agreed; road coverage does not automatically include every ferry link.

Town streets and the last few metres

For an Albert Street, Bridge Street or other town receiver, confirm the lawful goods entrance, loading position and current approach instructions. The council’s 2026 bollard statement distinguishes selected cruise and community-event street closures from earlier permanent-order proposals. Check the actual day’s notices and signs.

A blocked street, rear entrance, narrow yard, kerb, steps or fragile surface can change the unloading plan. Give the path to the authorised receiver and any final-placement requirement. A tail lift lowers goods but does not move a pallet across gravel or up steps without agreed equipment or handling.

Current roads, release and receiving

Use the council’s current roadworks guidance for the local journey, alongside the chosen ferry operator’s current instructions. A harbour-extension consultation, old event closure or proposed town layout is not proof of today’s access.

Give release time, loading duration, confirmed sailing and check-in, any transfer and receiver’s latest acceptance time. Allow for the final road leg and unloading. Service changes, weather and deck-space availability can affect the plan; an urgent enquiry cannot secure unavailable ferry space or override entry and traffic controls.

Confirm the last few metres

Describe the ground, slope, kerb, steps, loading bay and final placement. Photos help with a narrow yard or awkward entrance. A tail lift lowers goods; it does not move a pallet over gravel, up steps or through a doorway.

Kirkwall and surrounding areas

Where is your
collection?

We assess Kirkwall and surrounding Orkney collections and deliveries, with onward UK transport planned around the complete route. Mainland Orkney, an outer-island receiver and the Scottish mainland are different journeys. These are coverage areas, not Synergix branches or fixed service boundaries; ferry and final-road arrangements are confirmed for the job.

Kirkwall and Hatston addresses

Individually confirmed town, Hatston industrial, workshop, institutional and terminal road-handover addresses.

Name the operator/unit, goods entrance, reference, receiving time and loading equipment.

Road-connected Orkney work

Agreed Mainland Orkney, Finstown, Stromness, St Ola and road-connected Burray or South Ronaldsay addresses.

Share both full addresses, actual approach and suitable load/vehicle, with any crossing already required to reach Orkney.

Outer-island arrangements

Proposed collections or deliveries needing an additional Orkney island connection.

The exact island, operator, terminal, cargo or vehicle booking, transfer and final-road scope need separate confirmation.

Scottish mainland and onward UK journeys

Agreed road and ferry movements to or from the Scottish mainland and onward UK receiving points.

Vehicle availability, sailing space, commercial check-in, loading, transfers and receiving deadline are assessed as one plan.

A useful enquiry. A clearer quote.

Tell us the job.
We will help plan it.

  1. The two addressesCollection and delivery postcodes, company/unit names, goods entrances and a contact at each end.
  2. What needs movingGoods description, item or pallet count, packaged dimensions, total and individual weights, stackability and photographs where useful.
  3. When it is readyDate, ready time, latest arrival, goods-in closing time and any booked slot or reference. Identify fixed deadlines.
  4. How it will be handledForklift, dock, tail lift, pallet truck, crane or crew at both ends. Include surface, aperture and vehicle-access limits.
  5. Any special requirementFragile finish, temperature, regulated goods, multiple stops, returnable packaging, returns or agreed final placement.
  6. Updates and repeat workYour preferred contact, delivery evidence and, for regular transport, frequency, expected volumes and seasonal peaks.

What affects the price?

Vehicle positioning, loaded distance, vehicle/body type and time at collection and delivery all contribute. Waiting, additional stops, handling equipment, extra labour, route charges and a return journey can alter the quote.

For ferry or European work, route timing and goods-document requirements also matter. We quote the actual movement; there is no single Kirkwall mileage price that fits every load.

What happens if something changes?

Tell us promptly about an extra pallet, heavier item, delayed release, changed entrance or missed slot. We can reassess the vehicle, deadline and cost before an unsuitable arrangement causes a problem.

An enquiry is the start of the conversation. Vehicle allocation, timing, handling and price are confirmed for the booking.

Courier and haulage
coverage in Kirkwall.

Kirkwall and the surrounding area

The map shows Kirkwall and its surrounding town geography on Mainland Orkney. It is a coverage-area map, not a Synergix office, a ferry booking or an individual gate map. Confirm the exact receiver and distinguish Hatston, Kirkwall Pier and any other terminal required by the journey. Send both full addresses and the correct goods entrances when enquiring.

This is an area map. It does not mark a Synergix office, establish a fixed service boundary or provide HGV routing. Our team confirms collection, delivery and access for the job.

Before you book

Kirkwall transport
questions answered.

Courier, timing and delivery

How quickly can you collect in Kirkwall?

Call with the exact address, ready time, goods and receiving deadline. Local collection depends on a suitable available vehicle and handling. A journey involving a ferry also needs a confirmed commercial booking, check-in, crossing, any transfer and final road leg. We assess the complete island movement before agreeing an estimate; a mainland collection-time example is not a Kirkwall guarantee.

Can you deliver from Kirkwall to another part of the UK on the same day?

Give both full addresses, ready time, contents and actual receiving deadline. The complete road and ferry journey, confirmed sailing space, commercial check-in, loading and unloading must fit the plan. Same-day local work and a crossing to the Scottish mainland need different assessments. Availability, weather and service changes can affect timing; we confirm the actual arrangement before booking.

What can a dedicated courier carry?

Courier work can include documents, parts, samples, print, IT equipment, technical cases, boxed stock and suitable bulky or palletised goods. Give the packaged dimensions, quantities and individual weights so we can assess the vehicle, loading and receiving arrangements.

Will a dedicated courier load stay on the same vehicle?

The collection, road legs, ferry and any transfer points are agreed before booking. An accompanied vehicle and an unaccompanied or transferred load have different handling plans. Tell us if the goods must remain on one vehicle or need a particular named handover, packing or evidence requirement, so suitability and the complete arrangement can be confirmed.

Can I call at night or at the weekend?

Yes. Our phones are answered 24/7/365. Call to discuss the load and confirm a suitable vehicle and plan. Someone must be available to release the goods and accept them at the agreed times.

How will I receive delivery updates and proof of delivery?

Live tracking and electronic proof of delivery are available. Agree the updates and evidence you need when booking, including a named recipient, signature, photograph or delivery reference.

Haulage, vehicles and unloading

Do I need a courier or a haulage arrangement?

Start with the goods and deadline. An urgent part, technical case or suitable pallet may need a courier. Heavier freight, larger volumes, specialist bodies or repeat loads may need haulage. Send the load and site details and we will help you choose.

Can you arrange dedicated pallet transport in Kirkwall?

Yes, we assess dedicated pallet movements with collection, delivery and a suitable vehicle agreed for the job. Send the loaded footprint, height, individual weights, quantity, stackability and loading at both ends. Synergix does not offer pallet-network services.

Can you discuss full loads, part loads and regular deliveries?

Yes. Full loads, regular haulage and supported part-load arrangements can be discussed. Agree the body, loading, collection window and delivery plan. Part-load availability is assessed individually; it is not a pallet-network product.

How do I choose a van or lorry, and can LoadCheck help?

Measure each item as it will travel, including packaging, the pallet and overhang. Enter packaged dimensions, weights and quantities into LoadCheck for an initial size estimate. Our team confirms actual fit, usable payload, apertures, restraint, equipment, access and availability.

What if the delivery site has no forklift?

Tell us before booking. A suitable tail lift, mounted forklift, crane or agreed crew may be an option, depending on the goods and site. Send item weights, dimensions, fork access or lifting points, ground conditions and final placement. These handling methods solve different problems and must be agreed.

When must I request an electric pump truck?

Under Synergix’s booking rule, request an electric pump truck when pallet-truck handling is needed for an individual loaded pallet weighing 800 kg or more. Lighter pallets may also need powered handling. Platform load, footprint, ground and the actual equipment still need checking.

Can you assess a crane or mounted-forklift delivery?

Yes. Send the precise goods, individual weights, dimensions, lifting points or fork access, required placement and photographs of the unloading area. Crane reach and support conditions differ from forklift access. Suitability, equipment and availability are confirmed for the job.

Can you arrange refrigerated transport or event refrigeration?

We can assess both, with the product, required temperature and handover agreed. Refrigerated transport moves goods under an agreed temperature arrangement. Stationary event refrigeration provides storage at a venue. Tell us which you need, the duration, access and any power requirement.

Kirkwall access and local handovers

Can a business van use a domestic ferry booking?

Use the chosen operator’s commercial booking instructions. NorthLink distinguishes household vans from vans carrying business goods, tools, equipment or personnel, and directs commercial vans to its freight department. Pentland Ferries also directs commercial vehicles and freight to its booking offices. Confirm the actual vehicle, load, route and booking before dispatch; a small van is not automatically a domestic movement.

Are Hatston and Kirkwall Pier the same receiving point?

Identify the actual operator and terminal. NorthLink’s Hatston ferry terminal is outside Kirkwall and has its own commercial booking and check-in arrangements. Cargo handed to an Orkney Ferries service at Kirkwall Pier has different receiving instructions and route scope. Give the full terminal, booking or shipping reference, contents, contact and handover time. A town name alone does not identify the correct gate or cargo acceptance point.

Can a quoted journey secure space on the ferry?

The actual crossing and commercial booking must be confirmed. Give the complete vehicle and load, ready time, chosen route and receiving deadline, with any declared specialist contents. Check the operator’s current check-in and acceptance instructions. A quotation, arrival at the port or urgent deadline does not by itself reserve deck space, secure boarding or confirm the onward handover.

What needs checking for an outer-island delivery from Kirkwall?

The exact island, operator, departure and receiving terminal, vehicle or cargo booking, shipping reference, acceptance time and any transfer. Give complete packaged dimensions and weights, contents and loading at each point. Some services have specific vehicle or deck limits and cargo receiving windows. The final-road and unloading arrangement must also be agreed; Kirkwall coverage does not automatically include every onward island link.

What should I send for protected workshop or technical equipment?

The full contents, packaged dimensions, quantity, total and individual weights, protective packing, orientation and any supports or restraint needs. Declare batteries, cylinders or other regulated contents for assessment across road and ferry legs. Give the actual goods entrance, receiver, project or delivery reference and latest acceptance time, with loading equipment at each handover.

Can a town-centre delivery drive through a closed street?

Confirm the lawful approach, actual entrance and loading plan for the day. Follow current signs, closures and receiver instructions. The council’s 2026 bollard statement describes selected cruise and community-event closures, separate from earlier permanent-order proposals. Agree a lawful alternative handover or unloading path where needed. An urgent delivery does not override a closed street or permit moving its barrier.

Price, booking and changes

What affects the price of a Kirkwall courier or haulage job?

Vehicle positioning, route, ferry booking, body type, deadline, waiting, loading, transfers, extra stops, equipment and additional labour can affect the quote. Give complete goods and receiving details, with the actual island and terminal scope. We price the agreed arrangement; a passenger fare or road-only mileage rate does not price an island freight job.

How do I book, and what happens if the job changes?

Request a quote or call with both addresses, packaged dimensions, individual and total weights, quantities, ready time, deadline, contacts and handling at both ends. We confirm the vehicle, plan and price for the booking. Tell us promptly about added goods, delayed release or a changed slot so we can reassess.

Can you discuss warehousing, retail distribution or two-person delivery?

Yes. Send the usual route, frequency, volumes, receiving windows and seasonal peaks. Warehousing, cross-docking, retail distribution and agreed two-person handling can be considered within a wider arrangement. Storage location, handling scope, availability and commercial terms are agreed separately.
