When the load needs more planning
For palletised goods, heavier freight, full loads, part loads and repeat transport. The correct body, loading method and receiving appointment matter as much as the journey between postcodes.
- Give the loaded footprint and weight of each pallet or item.
- Confirm forklift, dock, tail lift or other handling at both ends.
- Include site slots, access limits and any delivery sequence.
A part load can suit a flexible schedule. A dedicated vehicle or full-load arrangement may be more appropriate when timing, segregation or handling requirements demand it.

The smallest suitable vehicle is often the sensible starting point. It still needs enough usable space, payload and handling capacity, with safe access at collection and delivery.

Measure the goods as they travel
Include packaging, the pallet and any overhang in the length, width and height. Give the total freight weight and the weight of each item. Gross vehicle weight, such as 7.5t or 18t, is not the freight payload.
A load can fit inside the body but still fail to pass through the door, exceed the equipment rating or leave insufficient room to secure it. A photograph helps with awkward shapes, but it does not replace measurements.
A pallet count is only a starting point
A standard UK pallet is 1,200 × 1,000 mm; a Euro pallet is 1,200 × 800 mm. The loaded footprint may be larger. Confirm the actual dimensions, whether goods can be stacked, and any orientation restrictions.
Usable pallet positions depend on body dimensions, overhang, weight distribution, restraint space and delivery order. Refrigeration, cranes and mounted equipment can alter useful payload and loading arrangements.
How will it come off the vehicle?
Forklift or loading dock
Confirm that equipment and an authorised operator will be available at the booked time. Side loading may need a curtainsider or flatbed. A dock needs compatible vehicle height and a clear approach.
Tail lift and pallet truck
A tail lift lowers the load; a pallet truck moves it on a suitable surface. Check every weight on the platform, permitted handling method, footprint and load centre. Gravel, soft ground, steps and steep gradients need a different plan.
Crane, mounted forklift or a crew
A HIAB-type loader crane lifts; a MOFFETT-type truck-mounted forklift handles supported loads at ground level. Neither is interchangeable with two-person manual handling. Each needs its own access, capacity and operating-space assessment.
Practical North East planning
The last mile
matters too.
A postcode gets the journey started. The correct goods entrance, receiving contact and unloading plan help make the delivery achievable.
Newcastle, Gateshead & Tyneside
Confirm the loading address separately from an office or shop's public entrance. City-centre stops can involve timed loading, pedestrian areas, limited standing space or a service entrance on another street.
Parts of Newcastle and Gateshead are within the Clean Air Zone. Check the assigned vehicle and route against the current zone requirements. Emissions compliance does not grant permission to use a restricted street or loading bay.
For North Shields and South Shields, identify the correct side of the Tyne, goods entrance and any site appointment. A short distance on a map does not settle the practical route.
Sunderland, Washington & County Durham
For a factory, trade counter, retail park or business estate, send the unit number and goods-in contact as well as the postcode. Explain any booked bay, induction, protective-equipment requirement or reference the driver must present.
Deliveries involving Durham, Consett, Bishop Auckland, Newton Aycliffe and Peterlee can need very different vehicles. A warehouse with a forklift and a town-centre shop without unloading equipment should not be booked on the same assumptions.
Teesside & Darlington
For Middlesbrough, Stockton-on-Tees, Hartlepool, Redcar and Darlington, clarify whether the destination is a normal business address, a controlled industrial site or a port terminal.
Give the exact reception or gate, consignee, booking reference and receiving window. A delivery slot does not prove the goods have been released or that a forklift will be waiting. Check those separately before arranging collection.
Northumberland & rural approaches
For Blyth, Cramlington, Ashington, Hexham and surrounding rural areas, check the full approach, not only the gate. Tell us about narrow lanes, signed restrictions, low branches, bridges, gradients and the turning area.
Provide the correct entrance and a reachable site contact. A smaller vehicle may resolve physical access, but it still needs enough payload and the right equipment. Legal access and physical fit are separate checks.
Ports, airport cargo & controlled sites
Port of Tyne
Identify the terminal, handling agent, goods reference and collection or delivery appointment. Confirm that the consignment is available for release and that the vehicle/body matches the cargo. A general port address is not enough to book the handover.
Teesport containers
PD Ports requires a vehicle booking appointment for container collections and deliveries at Teesport. Establish who is making that booking, the container/release details and the correct terminal. This container process is not a rule for every pallet delivery in Teesside.
Newcastle Airport cargo
The airport lists separate landside and airside handling agents. Give the handling agent, cargo address, release reference and handover time. Road collection does not include automatic airside access or customs clearance. Agree the required scope first.
Site procedures and access rules can change. Confirm the current instructions with the receiving business or terminal before the movement is booked.

Regular haulage & retail distribution
For repeat collections, store deliveries and replenishment, share the frequency, weekly volumes, stop sequence and receiving windows. Planning the whole route can be more useful than treating every delivery as an isolated urgent job.
Tell us about returns, reusable packaging, booked bays and whether delivery order changes how the load must be packed.
Warehousing & consolidation
Storage, cross-docking and consolidation can support a wider distribution plan. Our Northampton operation supports this work. Discuss stock volume, handling, storage duration and the onward North East delivery schedule together.
North East transport coverage does not mean that every listed town has a Synergix depot or storage facility.
Two-person delivery
For goods needing an agreed crew, explain item weights, the route from vehicle to delivery point, stairs, lifts and the final placement required. Photographs and access measurements help us assess the job.
Two-person delivery does not automatically include unpacking, assembly, installation or removal of packaging. Set out the required tasks so they can be agreed.
Temperature control & event refrigeration
Refrigerated transport needs the goods, required temperature range, collection condition, journey and handover arrangements specified. Confirm any monitoring or documentation requirements when enquiring.
Event refrigeration is a separate requirement for refrigeration at the venue. Share the event dates, access, positioning, power arrangements and collection time. A refrigerated delivery is not automatically an event-hire booking.

What affects the collection and deadline?
Start with when the goods will actually be packed, released and ready to load. The collection estimate depends on a suitable available vehicle, its position, access and any equipment needed.
Onward timing includes the journey, loading and unloading, traffic, receiving slots and applicable driving and working-time limits. There is no reliable universal miles-per-day promise for every vehicle or job.
We assess same-day, overnight, weekend and out-of-hours requirements against those details. Tell us the real deadline, including any earlier goods-in closing time.
What affects the price?
The quote needs to account for vehicle positioning, the loaded journey, vehicle/body choice and the time involved at both ends. Waiting, extra stops, additional labour, specialist equipment and a return or onward movement can change the cost.
For Northern Ireland, island or European movements, tell us the destination and deadline early so ferry, route and documentation requirements can be assessed.
A clear load description and receiving plan reduce avoidable uncertainty. The price is not simply fuel cost multiplied by the distance between two postcodes.

Collections, coverage and deadlines
How quickly can you collect in the North East?
Rapid courier collection can be possible, with collection within around 45 minutes in many mainland UK areas subject to the job, location and vehicle availability. We must check the actual North East collection before confirming a time. This is not a blanket promise for rural addresses, HGVs, refrigerated vehicles or specialist equipment, and it is not a delivery-time guarantee.
Which North East locations do you cover?
The directory includes Newcastle upon Tyne, Gateshead, Sunderland, Durham, Darlington, Middlesbrough, Stockton-on-Tees, Hartlepool, Redcar, Washington, South Shields, North Shields, Blyth, Cramlington, Ashington, Bishop Auckland, Newton Aycliffe, Peterlee, Consett and Hexham. Send the postcode for surrounding villages, business estates and rural addresses so we can assess coverage and access.
Can a courier take my goods directly to the destination?
A dedicated courier movement can be arranged between the agreed collection and delivery points without routing through a parcel-network sorting hub. Confirm whether you require a dedicated vehicle, any additional stops and the latest receiving time. A part-load haulage arrangement follows its agreed schedule instead.
Can you deliver from the North East to Scotland or elsewhere in the UK?
We can assess collections and deliveries between the North East and destinations across the UK, including Scotland. Northern Ireland and island routes need ferry and onward-access planning. European road movements can also be discussed, with the goods, route, documentation and timetable checked before confirmation.
How far can a van or lorry travel in a day?
There is no single mileage figure that confirms a delivery is achievable. Vehicle position, collection readiness, traffic, loading time, receiving slots and applicable driving and working-time rules all affect the schedule. Give us the actual addresses and deadline so we can assess the complete movement.
Can you arrange evening, weekend or overnight movements?
Out-of-hours requirements can be assessed. Confirm that someone can release the goods and that the destination will receive them at the proposed time. Vehicle and equipment availability still need checking; an open telephone line does not mean every vehicle type is immediately available.
Vehicles, pallets and handling
Which haulage vehicles can be considered?
Depending on the job, options include 7.5t, 18t and 26t rigid vehicles and articulated transport, with body and equipment choices checked separately. A vehicle's gross weight is not its freight payload. Send the load dimensions, individual weights, loading method and access details rather than choosing only by the vehicle category name.
Can you deliver a pallet where there is no forklift?
Possibly, with an appropriate tail lift and pallet truck or a different agreed handling arrangement. We need the loaded pallet dimensions and weight, lift requirements, ground condition and the distance from the vehicle to the handover point. A tail lift alone does not solve soft ground, steps, a steep gradient or an unsuitable pallet.
When do I need to request an electric pump truck?
When pallet-truck handling is needed for an individual loaded pallet weighing 800 kg or more, request an electric pump truck. This is Synergix's booking requirement, not a universal legal threshold. Lower weights may also require powered handling. The equipment, lift platform, load centre, surface and route must still be suitable.
Can you handle a restricted entrance or rural delivery?
Send the narrowest width, lowest clearance, signed weight or access limits and details of the approach and turning area. Photographs can help. A smaller vehicle may be suitable, but its actual payload, loading aperture and equipment must work for the consignment. Do not assume a gate measurement proves the whole route is accessible.
Can you transport fragile, valuable or unusual goods?
Describe the goods, value, packaging and any sensitivity to movement, temperature or handling before booking. We can assess the vehicle, restraint and handover requirements and confirm any relevant carriage or insurance arrangements. Do not assume that ordinary packaging, standard cover or a particular handling method is automatically suitable.
Does two-person delivery include assembly or installation?
Only if those tasks are separately agreed. Explain where the goods must be placed, item weights, stairs, lifts and the carrying route. Unpacking, assembly, installation, packaging removal and returns should each be stated if required, so the right crew, time and scope can be assessed.
Sites, quotes and communication
Can you assess collections from the Port of Tyne or Teesport?
Yes, subject to the cargo, suitable transport and the terminal's current arrangements. Give the terminal, handling agent, release status, reference and appointment. Teesport container collections and deliveries require the PD Ports vehicle booking process; this should not be assumed to apply to every ordinary delivery in the surrounding area.
What should I provide for Newcastle Airport cargo?
Give the handling agent, exact cargo address, goods and release reference, load details and collection or receiving window. Confirm whether the handover is landside and who is responsible for any clearance or controlled access. A road-transport booking does not automatically include airside permissions or customs work.
What information do you need to quote accurately?
Send both postcodes, the goods description, item or pallet count, packaged dimensions, total and individual weights, ready time and deadline. Include loading equipment at both ends, access restrictions, receiving slots and extra tasks. For repeat work, add the frequency and expected volumes.
What happens if the vehicle has to wait or I need another stop?
Tell us about expected queues, site appointments, additional stops and waiting before the quote is agreed. These affect time, routing and potentially the price. If the job changes after booking, contact us promptly so the arrangements and any additional charges can be confirmed.
Will I receive updates and proof of delivery?
Agree the required updates, recipient details and proof-of-delivery arrangements at booking. Tell us if you need a named signatory, photograph, timestamp or specific documents. The information available depends on the transport arrangement and any site restrictions.
Do you have a depot in every location listed?
No. The directory describes transport coverage. Synergix's head office and operations centre are in Stoke-on-Trent, with Northampton supporting warehousing, cross-docking, retail distribution and two-person delivery. The listed North East towns are not being presented as individual Synergix premises.
