More than a hazard label

Tell us the goods. We plan the movement.

From an urgent chemical consignment to a planned dangerous goods load, we put the actual transport requirements first. Your UN details, quantities and packaging determine what is needed. We then arrange suitable capacity, including specialist operators where the load requires them. New to ADR? Start with the booking guide immediately below. You can send the information you have while the responsible supplier or safety adviser confirms what is missing.

Dedicated ADR courier

For time-sensitive packages, samples, components and production supplies, a dedicated vehicle provides a direct journey with fewer handovers. Send the classification before requesting a collection time. A small consignment can still have specific packing, training or security requirements.

ADR haulage and specialist loads

For pallets, drums, IBCs, cylinders, larger consignments and tank or bulk enquiries, we assess the form of carriage as well as the weight. Vehicle approval, driver entitlement, loading equipment and the receiving site's arrangements must suit the particular load. Existing ADR permissions do not cover every substance or configuration automatically.

Goods and classifications

All ADR classes. Individual load checks.

Chemical manufacturers and distributors, laboratories, engineering teams and businesses returning regulated products use ADR transport when the contents are classed as dangerous goods. The substance and quantity determine the carriage rules, whether the load is one correctly prepared package, drums or intermediate bulk containers (IBCs).

Class 1: explosives and explosive articles

Give us the UN number, division, compatibility group, net explosive mass, package details and movement requirements. Explosives need their own specialist assessment, including vehicle, driver and security provisions. Do not book them as a general parcel or assume that an ADR driver qualified for other classes can carry them.

Class 2: gases and gas cylinders

Identify the gas, cylinder or receptacle type, number of units, capacity and whether the consignment is full, partly used or being returned. Tell us about flammable, non-flammable or toxic properties and any cryogenic requirement. Restraint, ventilation, loading and the appropriate vehicle are established for the product.

Class 3: flammable liquids

For chemicals, solvents, coatings and other flammable liquids, send the transport classification, packing group where assigned, quantity and package type. Include drum or IBC counts and any temperature requirement. The product name alone does not establish its carriage conditions or whether a quantity exemption applies.

Classes 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3: flammable and reactive substances

These groups include flammable solids, substances liable to spontaneous combustion and substances which release flammable gas on contact with water. Identify the exact classification and any stabilisation or temperature conditions. Loading compatibility, moisture protection and special handling are considered before the job is accepted.

Classes 5.1 and 5.2: oxidising substances and organic peroxides

Supply the UN entry, concentration or formulation where relevant, package sizes and any control or emergency temperature specified for carriage. An ordinary chilled vehicle is not automatically suitable for a temperature-controlled dangerous substance. The product's transport instructions drive the equipment and operating plan.

Classes 6.1 and 6.2: toxic and infectious substances

Tell us whether the consignment is a toxic chemical, an infectious substance or another classified material, and provide the consignor's classification. Patient specimens, Category A and Category B materials have different requirements. Describe the packaging and receiving facility so the appropriate service can be agreed.

Class 7: radioactive materials

Radioactive consignments are assessed with specialist operators. Provide the proper classification, package type, relevant transport indices, certificates or approvals where required, and authorised collection and delivery arrangements. We confirm the operator and conditions for the actual movement rather than treating general ADR capability as blanket radioactive approval.

Class 8: corrosive substances

For acids, alkalis and other corrosives, provide the UN details, packing group, concentration where relevant and package type. State whether containers are new, used or empty but uncleaned. Packaging condition, compatible loading and safe handling at both ends matter as much as finding enough floor space.

Class 9: miscellaneous dangerous substances and articles

This group includes lithium batteries and other goods with specific transport hazards. Tell us whether batteries are standalone, packed with equipment or contained in it, and disclose damage, defects or recalls. New stock and damaged returns can require very different arrangements. Send the relevant transport and packaging information before collection.

Practical booking guidance

When a business needs ADR transport.

Different customers face different consequences if goods cannot be released, carried or accepted correctly. These are typical booking situations, with the actual classification checked for each load.

Manufacturers and production teams

An urgent chemical, coating, battery or other classified component may be needed to keep work moving. Send its transport classification, packed quantity, ready time and receiving deadline so urgent capacity can be assessed without guessing the requirements.

Suppliers, distributors and warehouses

Planned dispatches can involve cases, drums, cylinders, IBCs or mixed pallets. Share the goods list and package quantities as well as total weight. Receiving facilities need the right unloading method and authority to accept the declared material.

Laboratories and specialist facilities

Samples and regulated materials need the sending organisation’s classification and the correct receiving point. Laboratory cut-offs, package condition, any temperature requirement and named authorised contacts belong in the transport brief.

Returns and equipment movements

A battery-powered machine, empty uncleaned container or damaged return can differ from routine new stock. Declare residues, defects and any waste status before quoting. Transport acceptance and any separate waste permissions must match the actual job.

The Synergix fleet

Explore the full vehicle range.

Explore the wider Synergix fleet, from small vans to specialist combinations. The suitable vehicle, body and equipment are confirmed for your ADR movement. The overview does not mean every configuration performs every service.

Dimensions are initial load-space guidance, not outside vehicle measurements. Gross vehicle weight is not payload. Door openings, body fittings, handling equipment and axle limits matter; the assigned configuration determines usable space and freight allowance.

From enquiry to handover

How your movement works.

The goods information comes first. That lets us give you a transport plan and price based on the job you actually need.

  1. Send the classification

Provide the UN details, quantities, packaging, condition, locations and deadline.

  2. Check the requirements

We establish suitable driver, vehicle, documentation, equipment and security arrangements.

  3. Confirm the movement

Agree the price, collection window, delivery slot and responsibilities at each end.

  4. Collect and transport

The agreed load is collected and moved under the confirmed transport plan.

  5. Complete the handover

Delivery is recorded, with proof of delivery and any separately agreed records.

ADR chapter 1.10

When dangerous goods need a security plan.

Some dangerous goods are high-consequence dangerous goods because of the harm their misuse could cause. Where the relevant provisions apply, the participants must adopt, implement and comply with a transport security plan. A high purchase price alone does not determine this status.

Check the actual substance and quantity

We need the UN entry, class and quantity to establish the security requirements with the responsible parties. High-consequence status depends on the applicable ADR provisions, including relevant thresholds and exceptions. It is not established by describing a load simply as hazardous.

A business plan, supported by journey planning

The required security plan covers the business operation and its responsibilities. It is not replaced by a route sheet or an escort booking for one delivery. We coordinate the movement within the applicable arrangements and agree authorised contacts and handover requirements privately.

Who establishes the requirement?

The consignor, carrier and other relevant participants establish their duties for the actual goods. The responsible dangerous goods safety adviser, often called a DGSA, should confirm whether chapter 1.10 and the high-consequence provisions apply. Supply the classification and quantity before release, with the authorised contacts for both ends.

What does the plan cover?

Where a plan is required, it assigns responsibilities, assesses the security risks and sets measures for the operation. It addresses suitable training, reporting and responding to concerns, checking the arrangements and reviewing the plan. The customer and transport operator need compatible responsibilities and instructions. Detailed security plans and movement information are shared only through the agreed authorised process.

A discreet chaperone or high-security service may be relevant to a particular job, but it does not replace ADR security duties. Discuss the requirement directly with the team. Detailed security procedures and sensitive movement information belong in the agreed booking process.

Ready for collection

The checks behind a compliant movement.

Good preparation avoids the vehicle arriving to find that the load, paperwork or site is not ready. The consignor, carrier and other participants each have responsibilities. We agree the information and arrangements needed before committing the movement.

Classification and transport documents

Provide the UN number, proper shipping name, class and subsidiary hazards, packing group where assigned, quantities and packaging details. A current safety data sheet, particularly its transport section, can help the discussion. It does not automatically replace a transport document or establish the classification of every article or waste.

Packaging, labels and loading

The goods need packaging, marks and labels appropriate to their classification and carriage. Tell us about drums, IBCs, overpacks, cylinders and any mixed load. Identify the loading method, restraint needs and unloading arrangements. Damaged or leaking packages must be disclosed before dispatch.

Drivers, equipment and approvals

The driver's training and ADR entitlement, required equipment, instructions in writing and any vehicle approval are checked against the carriage. Different classes and tank work can require additional entitlements. Not every dangerous goods journey requires the same vehicle certification.

Limited quantities and small loads

Limited quantities, excepted quantities and small-load provisions are different routes through ADR. Eligibility depends on the particular entry, packaging and quantity, including mixed-load calculations where relevant. A light parcel or a van under 3.5 tonnes does not establish an exemption by itself.

Urgent and planned work

UK and European ADR movements.

We support one-off urgent deliveries, regular collections and planned dangerous goods haulage. Send the ready time and delivery deadline together with the goods information so we can check capacity and the whole journey.

Urgent collection, properly confirmed

Suitable UK courier jobs may be collected within 60 minutes, subject to location, available ADR-qualified capacity and completed load checks. Explosives, radioactive materials, high-consequence loads and other specialist movements can need additional preparation. We confirm a realistic collection window for your goods.

Cross-border and ferry planning

For European, Northern Ireland, island or ferry movements, tell us the complete route and destination. Tunnel restrictions, ferry acceptance and any additional modal documentation or permissions need checking. A road booking does not automatically establish acceptance by a ferry or other transport operator.

Returns, empty uncleaned containers and dangerous goods waste need their own declaration. Explain the condition and destination before booking so the relevant carriage and any waste requirements can be checked.

Preparation and first-time booking

Get the goods and collection ready.

Send the details you know, identify anything still missing and use the guidance below to obtain the rest. You do not need to choose a vehicle before asking for a quotation.

A guide for first-time bookers

ADR booking details, explained.

ADR is the framework for moving dangerous goods by road. It covers how a load is identified, packed, documented, handled and carried. Everyday products can fall within it, including some batteries, aerosols and cleaning chemicals. The right arrangement depends on the actual product and quantity.

Start with the supplier’s information

Ask the manufacturer or supplier for the current safety data sheet, often called an SDS. For chemicals, Section 14 normally contains transport information. Send that information with your enquiry. Articles such as batteries may need separate classification evidence. A product photograph or trade name is useful context, but cannot establish the classification on its own.

The paperwork follows the goods

The consignor is the person or business sending the goods. The consignee is the receiving person or business. The consignor supplies accurate transport information and compliant packaging; the carrier checks the carriage requirements. An SDS helps establish the brief, but does not replace a required dangerous goods transport document.

UN number: which dangerous goods entry is it?

A UN number is a four-digit identifier, written with UN in front. It identifies a transport entry for a substance or article, rather than your order or tracking number. We use it to establish the relevant carriage conditions. Copy it from confirmed transport information, rather than choosing a number for something that sounds similar.

Proper shipping name: is that the brand name?

This is the recognised transport description linked to the UN entry. It can differ from the product’s commercial name and may need a technical name as well. Providing both your product name and the confirmed proper shipping name helps avoid confusion.

Class and subsidiary hazard: what is the risk?

The class describes the main transport hazard, such as Class 3 for flammable liquids or Class 8 for corrosive substances. Some goods have an additional, subsidiary hazard. These details inform handling, segregation, equipment and other safety requirements. The class is not a quality grade or a measure of the load’s value.

Packing group: how serious is the danger?

Where assigned, packing group I means high danger, II medium danger and III low danger. It helps determine the required packaging performance. Not every dangerous good has a packing group. A blank field should be checked against the correct entry, not filled with a guess.

Package type and quantity: why do you need both?

A drum, an intermediate bulk container (IBC), a cylinder and a small inner bottle are different packages. Give the number of packages, their type and the actual amount of each dangerous good. Pallet count and gross transport weight are also needed for vehicle planning, but do not replace the substance quantities used for ADR checks.

Tunnel code, limited quantities and other exemptions

A tunnel restriction code helps assess whether a route can use a relevant tunnel. Limited-quantity and small-load provisions have specific conditions; they are not a general exemption for anything in a van. We assess the applicable provisions from the confirmed classification, quantities and packaging. Ferry legs can add maritime requirements.

If you do not know these details, start with what you have and we will explain what is missing. Obtain classification confirmation from your supplier or dangerous goods safety adviser before dispatch. Do not open a sealed package, relabel it or guess a UN number to complete an enquiry.

Loaded pallet weights and powered handling

Where pallet-truck handling is needed, request an electric pump truck for an individual loaded pallet of 800 kg or more. This is Synergix’s booking rule, not a legal weight threshold. Lower weights can also need powered handling. Confirm the actual truck, tail-lift rating and platform, total weight on the lift, surface, gradient, travel distance and access.

Why Synergix

Specialist capability. Clear responsibility.

We combine dangerous goods transport with the reach and operational support of a wider courier and haulage business. You can discuss the load with people who understand what must be agreed before it moves.

The right expertise for the consignment

ADR-trained drivers and suitable specialist operators are selected around the actual goods and mode of carriage. You get a movement matched to its requirements rather than an assumption that any available vehicle will do.

Dedicated transport where it matters

A direct, dedicated vehicle can reduce handling and simplify coordination for time-critical or sensitive loads. The collection, route requirements and receiving arrangements are planned together.

Tracking and delivery evidence

Live tracking and electronic proof of delivery give you visibility of the movement and its completion. Tell us about additional records at quotation so the required evidence is built into the job. Registered customers also have access to the established booking, tracking and proof-of-delivery portal. Agree any additional reporting requirements with the team.

Insurance considered with the goods

Our transport is insured. Declared goods, value and specialist conditions are checked so applicable cover can be confirmed for your booking. A general transport policy is not a promise of unlimited dangerous goods cover.

UK reach and active support

National and European transport capability, backed by a real operations team available 24/7/365, helps coordinate urgent movements and regular work. If timing or site instructions change, there is someone managing the next step.

Experience with accountability

Three generations of family transport experience underpin a practical approach: understand the load, agree the work and follow it through. We support demanding work for some of the largest companies in the sectors we serve while keeping customer identities private.

Quotation and supplier information

Send the details that determine the job.

New to ADR? Use the “ADR booking details, explained” guide above, then send the supplier’s transport information with the collection and delivery details. We can start the conversation while missing information is being obtained; dispatch needs the confirmed classification and carriage arrangements.

What affects the price?

The price reflects the route, vehicle, goods classification, quantities, driver requirements, handling, timing and any additional security or temperature arrangements. Complete load information helps us quote the right service and identify costs such as waiting, specialist equipment or cross-border requirements.

The quotation confirms the agreed scope and any separately priced handling, waiting, out-of-hours, security or temperature arrangements that apply. Tell us about changes before collection, so the plan and price can be confirmed.

  1. Goods and classification

UN number, proper shipping name, class, subsidiary hazards, packing group where assigned and relevant transport information.

  2. Quantity and packaging

Total quantity, package counts and sizes, loaded weights, pallets, drums, IBCs or tanks, and any overpacks or mixed goods.

  3. Condition and special requirements

New or returned goods, damaged or defective articles, empty uncleaned packaging, temperature needs and any high-consequence security requirement.

  4. Collection and delivery

Postcodes and full site details, ready time, required delivery slot, authorised contacts and cross-border or ferry elements.

  5. Loading and unloading

Equipment, individual unit weights, access restrictions, site induction, vehicle constraints and the people responsible at each end.

  6. Value and evidence

Declared value, applicable cover requirements, documentation, tracking/POD and any additional transport or handover records you need.

Practical booking guidance

A clear brief for your purchasing team.

Use this page to assess the service, then send your operating requirements and supplier-approval questions to the team. We confirm the actual work before the booking is accepted.

Service and responsibility

Share the UN entries, quantities, packaging, carriage mode and sending/receiving responsibilities. Identify who prepares, loads, releases and receives the goods, and who can approve a change.

Supplier assurance

Tell us which evidence your approval process requires for driver entitlements, operator arrangements, any vehicle approval and applicable ADR security duties. We confirm the relevant arrangement and what evidence can be supplied for that activity. A general service description is not a substitute for a required certificate.

Visibility and exceptions

Live tracking and electronic proof of delivery support the transport. Specify additional records, authorised recipients and escalation contacts before collection. Agree what happens if the load, route or receiving slot changes.

Regular work and commercial terms

Discuss regular dangerous goods collections, changing substance lists and site-specific receiving instructions. Include expected frequency, volumes and start date. Send supplier forms, purchase-order or invoicing requirements early so any arrangements and deadlines can be confirmed. Read the trading terms and agree waiting, changes and specialist commitments with the quote.

Does insured transport mean full-value cargo insurance?

No. Carrier liability and cargo insurance are different. Tell us the goods and value before acceptance, and check the applicable terms and any expressly accepted enhancement. Do not assume that declaring a value, paying for a specialist vehicle or requesting extra cover means full-value protection has been accepted.

Practical answers

ADR transport questions.

Answers to the questions that matter before you book.

What if I do not know the UN number or ADR class?

Send the product name and the supplier’s current safety data sheet if available. Section 14 normally gives chemical transport details. If the information is missing or unclear, obtain confirmation from the supplier or your dangerous goods safety adviser. We explain what we need and why, without asking you to invent a classification.

Can you arrange transport for every ADR class?

Yes. We consider enquiries across all ADR classes, including specialist explosives and radioactive movements. The exact UN entry, quantity, packaging, route, qualifications and any permissions are checked before acceptance. Send the details so we can confirm the appropriate arrangement.

What information do you need for an ADR quote?

Start with the UN number, proper shipping name, class, packing group where assigned, total quantities and packaging. Add loaded dimensions and weights, condition, collection and delivery details, timing and any temperature or security requirements. A safety data sheet can support the assessment.

Can I book before all the ADR information is available?

You can start an enquiry with the product, quantity, route and deadline you know. Identify what is still missing and ask the supplier or responsible safety adviser to confirm it. A provisional discussion is not dispatch approval: the classification, packaging, documents and suitable transport arrangement must be established before collection is committed.

Do you provide same-day ADR courier collection?

Yes, where suitable capacity and completed checks allow. Our 60-minute UK courier collection proposition is subject to the goods, location, driver and vehicle availability. We confirm the collection window after reviewing the consignment rather than applying a blanket promise to every dangerous load.

Does every dangerous goods load need a security plan?

No. The specific high-consequence dangerous goods provisions, thresholds and exceptions must be checked. Where required, the relevant participants must have and follow a transport security plan. The plan covers their business operation, with the individual journey coordinated within it.

Is an escort enough to meet ADR security requirements?

No. An escort can form part of an agreed security arrangement, but it does not replace a required security plan, trained personnel or other applicable duties. Discuss the goods and security requirement with us before booking.

Can a small van carry ADR goods?

A suitable van can carry some dangerous goods. Vehicle size alone does not determine the rules. Classification, quantity, packaging, training, equipment and the applicable carriage provisions must be checked for the actual load.

Are limited quantities the same as a small-load exemption?

No. They are separate provisions with different conditions. Limited quantities depend on the entry and inner and outer packaging; small-load provisions use the relevant transport categories and quantities. Tell us the actual goods and amounts rather than assuming a universal weight limit.

Can you move drums, IBCs and tank loads?

We consider packaged drums and IBCs as well as tank and bulk enquiries. Explain the substance, capacity, quantity, loaded weight, handling and receiving arrangements. We confirm the correct operator, driver entitlement, equipment and any vehicle approval before accepting the movement.

Do you carry lithium batteries?

We can assess lithium battery consignments, including batteries in or with equipment. Declare the type, transport classification, packaging and condition. Damaged, defective or recalled batteries must be identified before booking because they can require different packaging and carriage arrangements.

Can you transport radioactive materials or explosives?

Yes, specialist enquiries can be assessed. These are not routine general-freight bookings. Provide the classification, package and quantity information and any relevant permissions or certificates so the appropriate specialist operator and conditions can be confirmed.

Can you collect empty containers or dangerous goods returns?

Yes, subject to assessment of the contents, residues, condition and destination. Empty uncleaned packaging can remain subject to dangerous goods requirements. Disclose waste, damage or leakage rather than describing the load simply as empty containers.

Is a safety data sheet enough for transport?

Not automatically. It helps identify relevant information, but required classification, packaging and transport documents still need to be established. Tell us what the consignor can supply and raise missing details before collection.

Who prepares the packaging and paperwork?

The consignor and other participants have their own responsibilities. We agree what will be supplied, checked and carried for your particular job. Do not assume that a driver arriving to collect can classify, repackage or produce every missing document on site.

Can ADR and temperature-controlled transport be combined?

Yes, we can assess the combined requirement. Provide the dangerous goods classification as well as the required temperature conditions and evidence. The actual vehicle and operating arrangements must satisfy both requirements; a refrigerated body alone is not sufficient.

Can you take dangerous goods to Europe?

Yes, suitable road movements can be arranged. Include destination, border and ferry or tunnel elements so acceptance, route restrictions, documentation and relevant permissions can be checked. Each part of the journey must be suitable for the goods.

Will I receive tracking and proof of delivery?

Live tracking and electronic proof of delivery support the transport. Tell us about any additional records, restricted recipients or handover requirements when requesting your quote so access and reporting can be agreed.

Are my dangerous goods insured?

Our transport is insured, with the goods, declared value and applicable conditions checked for the booking. Specialist cover must be confirmed for the actual consignment. Tell us about high values or particular cover requirements before accepting a quote.

How much does ADR transport cost?

The price reflects the route, vehicle, goods classification, quantities, driver requirements, handling, timing and any additional security or temperature arrangements. Complete load information helps us quote the right service and identify costs such as waiting, specialist equipment or cross-border requirements.

Can you support regular work or our supplier-approval process?

Yes. Send the expected goods, routes, frequency, sites and start date, together with your supplier-approval requirements. We agree the practical scope, contacts, evidence and commercial arrangements for the proposed work. Recurring capacity, account terms and reporting commitments need confirmation rather than being assumed from a one-off quote.
